The DreamStation 2

Philips Respironics is back with a brand new, sleek and lightweight design. The DreamStation 2 Auto CPAP was introduced into the CPAP market recently and has been causing some commotion (in the best way possible) amongst sleep apnea patients.

Compared to its predecessor, the DreamStation 2 is 29% smaller and 32.5% lighter; it is also 22% smaller and 16% lighter than the leading competitor. This new machine is a dark grey/black color and weighs 2.29 pounds compared to the original model that is a bright white color and weighs about 3 to 4 pounds. The exact dimensions of the new model is 10.78” (length) x 6.24” (width) x 3.34” (height) making it closer to the size of the DreamStation Go (travel size) than the original DreamStation machine offering the best of both worlds to patients – a smaller, almost travel size unit, that is billable through medical insurance providers.

Of course, the machine comes with the basics: a user manual, carrying case, power supply and cord, tubing, and a disposable and non-disposable filter. The DreamStation 2 is compatible with both Respironics and ResMed masks (just like the other CPAP machines on the market!), so you won’t have to worry about transitioning to an unfamiliar mask. It comes in the CPAP option as well as Auto CPAP. The new model still incorporates all the great features of the original model as well: RAMP settings, dream mapper, and an easy to use, colored touch screen.

The DreamStation 2 seems to be what all CPAP users are talking about right now, and I can see why. It works wonderfully, is user friendly, and is so incredibly small! I anticipate this being the hottest item of the year!

MedCline and your Comfort

You know that feeling when you’re lying in bed? You’re exhausted, but no matter what you do you cannot find that one comfortable position that will allow you to easily fall asleep. You toss and turn, and toss and turn some more, and still nothing. It’s quite possibly the worst feeling in the world. Luckily, there are a few simple solutions to this issue.

Acid Re-flux Option

MedCline has created the Advanced Positioning Wedge. The pillow has a cut out in which you can slide your arm through, which will remove pressure from on your shoulder and arm while sleeping on your side. Not only is this pillow comfortable and easy to use, but it also helps those who suffer from acid reflux. According to the manufacture, an individual who use the wedge and sleep in the position created by MedCline reduce the amount of exposure to harmful stomach acid. It also assists with a reduction in nocturnal reflux, laryngopharyngeal, silent reflux, post – esophagostomy, and gestational reflux. With your arm secured in the pocket on the pillow, you will not slide down or shift positions throughout the night – which is a good thing, there is less of chance of your actually snoring. The wedge also enhances your entire torso, not just the head and neck area; this is great for support. However, if you suffer from lower back or hip injuries this wedge is not recommended for you. Lastly, you are able to use the wedge with your favorite pillow so added support.

Shoulder Relief Option

Adding the optional body pillow provides another level of comfort as it wraps around your body providing a cradle like environment. Although it is a little pricier, that body pillow really makes a difference, and should seriously be considered when making this purchase.

Or if you prefer, just get the body pillow. You will not have any pressure relive without the wedge, but you’ll have another pillow for your bed – which if we’re being honest, you can never have enough of those – plus this pillow will cradle you throughout the night – like I mentioned – so I’m pretty sure you’re going to sleep like a baby. Another plus – you don’t need to worry about having a cuddle buddy ever again… That’s the best selling point if you ask me.

So if you are looking for the best in comfort, look no further than Monitor Medical. We have just what you need!

Hello, Spring!

Winter has come and now it is gone. While I do love hauling out my winter wardrobe from the depths of my closet (I mean way back in the back of my closet because do we even winter in Houston!?), not having to make an excuse for wearing a dark smoky eye, and the seasonal drinks at Starbucks I would much rather it be nice and warm because I am from the south and I wouldn’t have it any other way no matter how much I might complain about it being too warm. So who’s happy that spring has finally arrived? This girl!

Spring means longer, warmer days filled with lots of sunshine! I am looking forward to walks in the parks, trips to the beach, and actually spending time outside. The only thing that I do not look forward to with the beginning of spring is all the pollen… And the allergies…

If you are a CPAP user AND suffer from allergies, well, buddy, I feel sorry for you. You, my friend, are in for a rough few months. Here are a few suggestions that may help relieve the torture that are you doing to experience:

• Create a schedule for replacement supplies. Yes, you sleep inside the comfort of your home, not outdoors where the pollen and other allegiants are lurking, but once you’re exposed for the day there is no going back. Do yourself a favor and replace your cushions/pillow and filters every two week like you are recommended to do. It is solely for your benefit.
• Consider using a full face mask if you aren’t already doing so. Nasal masks during this time of the year is not a good idea because with all the sneezing and excess snot that you will be carrying around. You don’t want all of that on the inside of your cushion/pillow, am I right? Yes, I am, so do yourself a favor, and go on ahead and get that full face mask.
• I’m sure you already do this, and I don’t have to say it, but just for the heck of it… keep your environment clean. Dust and tidy, your bedroom especially, your home. This will allow for you to be in a clean setting, which will allow for less sneezing and irritation.

So while spring will bring many new and exciting things, there is always one thing that we expect. However, with a little combative planning, we can prepare for the worst of it and be able to enjoy the best of it.
